Sunshine

After what seemed like weeks of grey clouds, fog and just plain yucky skies we have had some sunshine! Superbowl Sunday was one of those beautiful blue sky days, so I took advantage of it and did some SolarFast printing. There was still snow on the bench, but it worked just fine. The leaves I used were from my pile of pressed ones.

I did four prints altogether, it's always good to have extra prints, they will show up later.

The Weekly Leaf #7

I used the green print in the lower left, avocado SolarFast on a hand dyed light green.

After stitching.

The color is correct on the full picture, but the camera refused to do that for the close ups.

Daily Stitching updates.

Each year I do a heart on my daily stitching on February 14.  There is no heart shaped gelli plate, so I cut out a heart from a 3 inch square and after I put the red paint on the gelli, I placed the open heart over the gelli plate.

Of course I had to do several  more prints while I had everything out.

Valentines

Every year I make valentine postcards for some of the young people in my life and this year is no different, although this year I think they were easier than normal and I forgot to take process photos. When I started thinking about what to do, my first thought was of sitting with my youngest Grand daughter and cutting out various sizes of hearts. So thats exactly what I did, I put misty fuse on the back of a red fabric scrap and started cutting out hearts.

They were fused, stitched and will be on the way to the post office later this afternoon.

The Weekly Leaf

Back in the summer of 2012 I wrote an article for Quilting Arts magazines Dec 12/Jan 13 issue on deconstructive screen printing with masks. Then in the spring of 2013 I presented the same thing for Quilting Arts TV season 1200. I made several samples and used the most successful ones in with the article and on the show. One of the less successful ones has been hanging out in my sewing studio's pile of fabrics that I don't know what to do with. I pulled it out and ironed it.

As you can see I only dyed half the background, I think I may have run out of the thickened dye I was using. Using my 6" viewfinder I picked out a section.

Ripped out the piece.

And got ready to stitch.

Using up scraps

I've been on a path of using up what I have and I have lots of fabric to use. I pulled out some fabric scraps around Christmas and started piecing them together and ended up with three quilt tops, this weekend I quilted them. They will be used as donation quilts, last year I donated fifteen quilts, so I've got a good start on this year. This is what they look like.

This week I used paintstiks brushed off of a mask onto hand dyed red fabric.

Then added lots of stitching in the parts with the paintstik color.
