2019 Daily Stitching #2 finished

This has been one of those weeks where life interferes with being creative. I did start to quilt a donation quilt, but it's sitting at the machine waiting for me to get back to it.

This morning I did finish my second daily stitching piece for this year, this one took 89 days of stitching.

2019 Daily Stitching #2

This morning I did this last section on the bottom.

Now I have to get #3 ready to go. I think I'll be stitching in green this time, but have no idea what I'll do.

2019 Weekly leaf #26 , half way through the year!

I had a small amount of purple and sienna solar fast left, so they were combined to print this eucalyptus sprig. The background was stitched with another great Valdani variegated thread.

Cyanotypes and ice dyed fabric

It's National Old Time Fiddle Festival here in Weiser this week, so I've put in some volunteer time listening to the music. I work in the judging area checking the tabulation of the scores, so I get to hear the music but not see the contestants. Earlier in the week the very small fry were the contestants and today it was Seniors. So I've heard quite a range of skills and music.

I've pulled out some cyanotype leaves I did last fall and put them together with the ice dyed fabric I did a few weeks ago.

Then decided it needed an ice dyed backing fabric.

Now I have to decide how to quilt it.

Starting Something New

A while ago I dyed some scraps of fabric with avocado pits, I've now got them pinned together and I've started the stitching.

I have no real plan for this, I'm just seeing where the stitching takes me.

2019 Weekly leaf, week #24

Solarfast on a commercially printed fabric, using a Burr Oak leaf.

Just a little bit of stitching

The only thing to report this week is that I did a little stitching and that was it for studio time.

2019 Daily stitching #2, days 64-70

I've had some questions about where I get my ideas for the straight/running stitch patterns I'm using. I do look on pinterest and instagram at different types of stitching, particularly kantha, sashiko, and boro stitching. But that being said, I find that generally if I just start stitching something comes to mind. I know that many of my stitches are influenced by what I look at, but I rarely have a pattern in mind when I start. I've been doing daily stitching for seven years and I've learned to trust that I'll come up with something. I'm also sure that the seven years of experience (plus several more years when I was younger), have made it second nature to me.
