A couple more wet cyan pieces

I've had one of those weeks where I've been busy but not very much to show. Every year my dear husband celebrates his birthday by having a barbecue , this year it was a pig out. He smoked pork for pulled pork, smoked several racks of ribs and cooked up some sausage, a whole lot of pork. He then invites lots of friends over to eat, they all bring side dishes so there is a whole lot of food. Everyone then gets a bag of pork to take home, needless to say, his pig out was a success and we were both very tired when it was over and cleaned up.

The day before I had friends over for our monthly lunch and we played with the indigo vat. The only piece I did was of some ripped and woven fabric that had been rusted, now it's also blue and rust.

Monday night I got to go over to the hospital and do a sleep study. I did one about 6 years ago and have been using an oral appliance to curtail my snoring, unfortunately it is no longer working. I'm now waiting for the results to see what's next.

Then yesterday I helped a friend sew 8 dog beds, she layered and cut out and I sewed.

We have had some absolutely beautiful weather, so I did do a few wet cyanotype pieces.

These two will probably end up in a composition with the previous ones, they are hanging out on my design wall.

I also did one that combined cyanotype with solar fast.

A couple new wet cyan pieces

I've found that if I reward myself with some playtime, I actually get some studio organization done. Playtime this week was a couple of wet cyanotype prints and I love how they came out. I did some large leaves from my back yard.

This is from a locust that is growing where it's not supposed to, the background is 24" h x 15" w.

This one is from my grape vine, about 16" x16".

I finished the stitching on the two indigo silk pieces, they just need some hanging sleeves and labels, I have no idea what to name them.

Thanks to everyone that commented on their favorite layout for the four inch squares, it was pretty evenly divided between the 2nd and 3rd layout. I've sewn the pieces together in rows, but I haven't sewn the rows together yet so I still have both options available. I'm leaning toward this way.

This is how my design wall looks right now, I've got plenty to work on.

More Wet Cyan Leaf Pieces

I was on a roll earlier this week and finished three small wet cyan leaf pieces. The first one is very small and will be sent off to the SAQA Spotlight auction that will be held at the annual conference in San Antonio.

Leaf
6"x 8"
The second will probably be my contribution to the SAQA online auction in Sept., although it is now hanging in one of the Four County Art Guilds locations.

Three Poplar Leaves
12"x 12"

The third one is hanging in the City library, another art guild location.
 Blue and Orange Leaves
20"w x 28"h

I still have a few more of last fall's wet cyan prints left to play with, I may get them out this week.

71 days of mark making days 25-31.

I've worked thru my sketchbook and I'm now going backwards thru it and doing the back of each page. I'm even starting to enjoy it.

A herringbone quilt top

While we were in NY I watched several videos on facebook that were from Quilt Market in Houston, one of them was Victoria Findley Wolfe demonstrating how she does a herringbone quilt. I loved the effect and over the weekend I pulled out a bunch of multi colored hand dyed fabrics and started cutting them up. On Monday I finished up the top, it's about 52" x 60"I just sewed until I ran out of cut strips.

I'm happy with it and I think I'll even keep it for myself, but with a very busy week or two coming up it will have to wait to be quilted.

Also finished the stitching and mounted the discharged wet cyanotype leaf.

Just stitching

It's been a quiet week on the creative front, but I did go thru some old stuff and purged! One was blocks from an exchange done in 2000, an online stamp carving group held an exchange of ten inch blocks printed from a stamp that each individual had carved. Most of the participants were not familiar with fabric printing since the majority of the group worked only on paper. Out of the twenty blocks I received only three appealed to me, but I've kept all of them for seventeen years. They have moved into the box of fabric pieces that my grandkids use when they are here and creating.

The other old project was a top done as a round robin exchange back in 2003, I've found a piece of fabric that will work for backing and it will get quilted and added to the donation pile.

There was more "stuff" that just got thrown away, it feels good for it to be gone!

The three little tops I was piecing last week are in the process of being finished, one is quilted , the other two have the leaves stitched but are not quilted yet.
