Some quick indigo

I've had a busy week, Don's daughters and their husbands were here so I stayed out of the studio for the most part only getting minimal stitching done. So yesterday I mixed up an indigo pot and today I spent a bit of time turning a few things blue.

A loose drapey top, a dress, a very large linen gauze scarf(it's folded in half on the line) and a smaller rayon scarf. There's a trip with my daughter and granddaughter in my future to somewhere warm and humid after we get through hubby's chemo and surgery. More about that as time goes by.

Getting Distracted

December is when I start to seriously consider options for next years daily stitching, so far I have ideas but nothing is taking form. This is not unusual it has happened before, but this year I've gotten a bit off track.

One of my rules for daily stitching is that it has to incorporate stuff I already have, which of course leads me to digging through a lot of stuff. On Sunday I pulled out my container of vintage mens ties. I used to make vests and pillows for sale using these and had put aside some that I really liked to make something for myself. That was about twenty years ago and I still haven't used them. Well, I'm now using them but not in daily stitching project. Here is the pile .

I'm actually doing paper piecing and making a wall hanging. There will be 48 three inch squares of log cabin blocks. So far they are taking about 45 minutes per block and I have six done. I've got a drawing on paper as my guide and this is what the ones that are pieced look like.

Another idea was to use the four inch squares that I showed a couple of months ago that had been indigo dipped. I sewed them end to end and now have a strip nine feet long.

It got rolled up and stuck in a drawer, so that's two ideas down and a few more to go, but I will have something to start on Jan 1.

New page of leaves

I finally put up a new page with all the weekly leaves from this year, you can find it just below the header at the top of this page, or you can click here. It would have been much easier if I had started at the beginning of the year and just updated it every week, but it's done and I will keep it updated.

I did get the little square wooden blocks pieces painted for the Art Guild to sell at the Art and Craft show in November.

Back in early September we had a small disaster in our kitchen, the refrigerator water filter leaked and warped the wood floor. We took out the pieces that were damaged, but since it's old we can't match it so new flooring was ordered. The flooring finally arrived, so this weekend I get to help remove the rest of the current floor. On Monday we have a friend coming over to help put down the new floor. This time it will be vinyl planks that look like wood and won't be destroyed by water leaks.

Miscellaneous items

I thought I would start off my post with a few of the miscellaneous items that are happening around here. We have had two rainy days in the past week, the first real rain since last spring and now frost is a big possibility for tonight. So my zinnias and other plants are looking good right now, but who knows what they may look like tomorrow.

The scarlet climber that was planted last spring is doing really well but the red trumpet shaped flowers that are supposed to attract hummingbirds haven't shown up yet and the hummingbirds have been gone for a month.

The red flowers that are at the base of the plant are from other plants that the vines have covered up. The second reason I plant this is because of the leaves, well maybe that's the first reason. I love the leaves.

Yesterday I delivered a few quilts to a local museum for the annual quilt show coming up this weekend. I took the scenic route home and had to stop in the middle of the road when I came across this.

There were flowers coming out of this all over it. I do a calendar every year for family and this will be the October picture.

Most nights I have a cup of Sweet Dreams herbal tea before bedtime. There are rose hips and hibiscus in the tea and the bag gets a pinkish color to it and I love the color of the stains it makes. So I've been keeping a piece of an old linen tablecloth folded on the end table to put the bag on and I think it might be ready for some stitches.

I don't know how light fast the color is and I also know that if I were to wash it the pink turns grey.

The last miscellaneous item is a before and after picture of my drafting table. The before picture was taken last spring and the table had actually gotten quite a bit more cluttered.

It now looks like this, I sure would like to keep it this way because it can actually be used for its intended purpose instead of being a dumping ground.

The small pieces of wood on the bottom left are going to have quilt block patterns painted on them and will be sold at the Art Guilds annual Art and Craft Show in November. All the members were given a few to paint.

SAQA Auction

I've been remiss in mentioning the annual SAQA Auction that has been going on for the past two and a half weeks. There are still several wonderful pieces available (including mine) in the third section.
This is the piece I donated.

Poplar leaves

I gathered a bunch of leaves again this past weekend and did a bit of printing. First were some gelli prints on muslin.

Second group is botanical prints on silk broadcloth, except for the 2 on the left which are on scraps of vintage linen tablecloth.

I love how the leaf outline printed on this one.

I also did some finishing work on a group of last years weekly pieces. These were done in groups of five called "Signs of Life: the five universal shapes"

Today I hung it in the Art Guilds display area at Weiser Classic Candies.
