Another Project Done

I would like to Thank all those who left messages of support for my husbands surgery. It's over, we are back home, there were a few problems but he got through it and is doing fairly well. He has about 4-6 weeks for recovery and I can see an improvement everyday. Next step is in 10 days we go back to Boise for another test and hopefully catheter removal, step by step to get healthy again. Cancer sure changes your life. This was the view from his 6th floor hospital window, the bear sculpture on the roof of the Children's Hospital.

I took a break this week, so there's no progress to show.

What I did do with all my time sitting and waiting was knit, I only have a couple more rows to go and this sock will be done.

Back to normal

I've settled back into my normal routine after the busyness of the past few weeks and it feels so good. We had a wonderful busy few days with family celebrating Thanksgiving and for the four youngest grandkids also Christmas since we won't see them then. Our only group picture (minus my hubby who was home smoking the brisket and turkey)is after the 5k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning we always stop for a bit of beverage before driving home and always find someone willing to be our photographer.

I finished the pair of socks I started this summer and wore them the next day, they were delightfully warm and cozy. This is my 12th pair since I started knitting in 2011.

I've put the border on the blue and white quilt top and I'm now waiting for fabric for the backing.

I'm back

I have been traveling for the past couple of weeks, went to Wallkill, New York  to visit family and to be tourists. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary.

Went to a nieces wedding where I met up with all three of my younger brothers, first picture together in many years.

We borrowed my brothers car and drove to Corning, NY to visit an uncle of Don's and to spend some time at the Corning Glass museum. Then on to Niagara Falls since neither one of us had ever been there.

Then back to Wallkill to just hang out for a while before flying back home. It was a good to see my family and to just hang out with no real agenda.

Signs of Life: The five universal shapes weeks #43-45

 Weeks #41-45

Only seven weeks left in the year! My next group will probably last for the whole seven weeks. I'm going to be stitching on a piece of silk noil that I had used soy wax paste on. When steaming it I incurred a problem with bleeding both from the dye and the newspaper I had rolled it in. I did this early last spring was disappointed and just put it aside. Since I need to get another one started I decided that if I covered it with stitches the bleeding would be hidden.

It looks better in the photo than it does in person. I've started pulling out some threads to work with and I don't plan on using french knots, but we will see what happens.

 I'm down to just filling in the background on this one.

Since returning home I've also started machine stitching another small leaf piece.

I've also been knitting a lot. I finished a pair of socks while in NY, so have started another pair. I'm making this pair out of yarn leftover from previous socks.

I've also started a cardigan made from several different single skeins of yarn from my stash. Most of these are yarns that I would not have purchased for myself, but they were all gifts from my hubby. I'm usually cool in the house so this will be my sweater of many colors to keep me warm. I'll also use up the yarn!

Tulips, kittens, yarn and some stitching

We have had a wet cool spring and the tulips are loving it. I have taken a bunch of tulip pictures, they make me happy. I'll share just a few of them.

The resident feral cat that we have not been able to catch and have neutered, just had four kittens. Last year we adopted the two that she had, this year we will be looking for homes. They are almost a week old. Mama had stepped away from them to eat so I snapped a quick picture.

Five years ago on my birthday my wonderful husband surprised me with a huge pile of yarn. I had just been knitting for about a year and the yarn shop where I learned was going out of business. He knew that I was able to get a pair of socks out of one skein of yarn, so he went around the store and picked up about fifteen different skeins. I'm on the last skein of sock yarn, but have several skeins of worsted weight yarn left. None are the same, but I've pulled out the variegated ones. I did this because a pattern for a cardigan sweater caught my eye and I have enough yarn in stock to make it. It will definitely be one of a kind. This is the yarn selection.

I do plan on finishing the pair of socks and the top down seamless pullover sweater I'm currently knitting before I start on this one, but I'm ready!

I was able to spend some time with my very creative friends Lisa Flowers Ross and Kathleen Probst last Friday and to my surprise they both wrote really nice blog posts about my weekly and daily projects. I, on the other hand took only one picture and it was of the tree that was in full white bloom outside Kathleen's studio window and it was snowing.

The current group of five will include appliqué along with stitching, all five will be on one piece of grey fabric. The shapes will be appliquéd using rust dyed fabric.

Halfway on the Seventy Days to 70 project

Today marks the halfway point for my Seventy days project with the milk filters. I must say so far this has been fun and I've had no problem coming up with ideas. Some I'm real happy with, others I wonder what I was thinking, but the important part is that I did something that day.

Lots of blue french knots this week

I've finished a couple of my knitting projects, remembered to take a picture of the cowl, maybe the socks next week.

I love the cowl, the wrinkles on the neck not so much. The cowl is made from  alpaca, silk and merino wool yarn and is incredibly soft and warm.
