Fern Blueprint

When we were in Washington a couple of weeks ago we very carefully brought home some large fern fronds, a quilt folded over them to keep them safe. I ordered a yard of pretreated fabric for blueprints and finally had a relatively windless day to do a print.

To give you an idea of size.

I will probably print with it some more and I have a longer one waiting in the wings. I have no idea what I will do with the prints, I just had to do it.

The quilt for our future great grand baby is on it's way to Phoenix for Saturdays party.

I also made Spike, a stuffed dinosaur to go with it and included a Curious George book. The pattern I have for Spike was printed in 1991, so all of the children in our life born since then have gotten one. The Mom to be and her younger sister are the only grand children older than the pattern.

The Weekly Leaf

I gelli printed a pair of leaves that also came home with us from Washington, below are the two prints and the leaves.

A monkey quilt for a great grandchild.

I am going to become a great grandmother in November! The gender reveal/baby shower is going to be held in Phoenix on July 2, we will not be there. I am making  a quilt that needs to be done this week so that I can mail it to get there in time. The color scheme is green and brown with monkeys, the invitation was in greens and brown with a monkey on the card. I found almost matching fabrics, enlarged the monkey picture 300%, and drew out a simple pattern. Below is the enlarged monkey, the card and my quick design.

Monkey #1 fused and stitched.

The completed top.

I found a green and brown monkey print for the backing, have it all layered and now all I have to do is quilt and bind it.

The Weekly Leaf

This week I printed a stem with several leaves using SolarFast avocado green on green hand dyed fabric. Here it is out in the bright sun.

Road trip, graduations and birthdays

I have spent the last week celebrating with part of our family. We drove to western Washington and spent most of our time at my daughter's house outside the small town of Eatonville. My daughter has had various careers, but decided a few years ago to finally finish her college degree. She did that last Friday, graduating from the Tacoma campus of the University of Washington. I'm a proud Mom. While there my son that lives in Tacoma also joined us for the celebrations. His son, my oldest grandson, graduated from middle school and we went to the celebratory brunch at the school. Then to make it an even more celebratory week we celebrated birthdays, three of them. One of our grand daughters was home for the summer from college and we visited her at her job as a barista/front desk clerk at Whitaker's bunkhouse on the way up Mt Rainier. It was a fun week, lots of activity and family time.

The Weekly Leaf

This week I used the leaf that started out as golden yellow hand dyed fabric, stamped with soy wax using my big leaf tjap. Then it was dunked in the indigo pot. It's on the left in the picture below.

After being trimmed to size.
