Mono Prints revisited

In March of 2010 I did a mono print everyday. Thirty of them were on 20" square pieces of linen and the thirty first one was done on a 52" square of cotton. They were all circles, black on white. The last one (#31) was the most difficult to do, since it was so large, but it was my favorite and I hand stitched the whole thing with pearl cotton. It has been traveling with SAQA's "Beyond Comfort"show since early in 2011.

Several of the other mono prints got cut up and rearranged last winter and then stitched with pearl cotton over the summer. I recently had it photographed.

68" x 50"
Yesterday I pulled out my favorites of the remaining prints and I want to do something with them. My original thought had been to just leave them as they are and do a giant nine-patch, but I really like what happened when I cut up and rearranged the others. So for now they are hanging out on my design wall waiting for me to make a decision.
There are several more hidden away in a drawer, that will probably join these if I decide to cut them up.

Lots of Stitching

After complaining about blogger and my problems posting, Kathy Loomis wrote and told me how to get words and pictures lined up. Thanks Kathy. It made me aware that I've been doing this backward for years, I've always done the pictures first then added words. So now I'm going to do words first then put in the pictures. Being a very visual person I'm always more interested in pictures over words. So this is a new experience for me . I've also hit the compose button above for the first time, that also changes things!

While taking pictures of my stitching projects I got carried away and took several close ups.

Wow this is working totally different than before!!!

The quilting has started

I have finally started quilting the queen size commissioned quilt, and it's going pretty slowly - I keep taking breaks. here is week 7's square February's "notion square" I took pictures earlier in the week of my daily stitching, but never posted them. #336 - #345 #43 - #52 Blogger has changed something and I can't figure out how to get the words and pictures to go together. Seems like every time I get comfortable posting it changes. This post is now linked to "Off the Wall Friday"

Quick and easy Valentine postcards

Every Valentines Day I send Valentine Fabric Postcards to some special young people in my life and I always seem to wait until the last minute to make them. This year was no exception, but they are done. This year I took a piece of white fabric large enough for a few cards and ironed it to a piece of freezer paper. Then out came my Sharpie collection and I drew hearts all over the fabric. Use regular Sharpies, not the ones designed for fabric.
Next I used a brush and brushed on rubbing alcohol, this makes the sharpie marks bleed.
Then apply fusible to the back of the fabric, cut into 4" x 6" rectangles and fuse to Timtex (also cut 4" x 6"). Take them to the sewing machine and stitch around some of the hearts. I also went back in and drew a few more small hearts with the Sharpies.
Fuse fabric to the backs (I used plain white), zig zag around the edges, sign the backs, and they are ready for address and messages, all in less than an hour.

Busy with not much to show

I feel like I've been busy all week, but have very little to show. I've been piecing together the backing for the queen size quilt using leftover bits from the front. The front is in five pieces, the center and four borders. I'm planning on quilting each piece before putting it all together. The studio is piled with the mess I'm creating while working and I'm getting to the point where I really want to get it done. I have been doing all my little daily projects. Here is #324 - #331
