Bits and Pieces

It's that time of year when I tend to obsess over next years weekly and daily projects. This year I know what I want to do for my daily, but I'm missing a major part of it until Christmas. That means I'm having trouble with some of the decisions that need to be made, like what colors, what fabrics, etc. The missing link is the new mini gelli plates , as soon as I saw them I knew that I wanted to use them for this coming years dailies and when I was asked what I wanted for Christmas I quickly forwarded a link so they could be ordered. I know they are in the house, but they've been wrapped and hidden until Christmas.

I plan on doing leaves again for my weekly project, but I know that I need to make some changes. I've gotten very comfortable with what I've been doing, so I need to step out of my comfort zone and try something new - I'm just not sure what it will be yet. One thing I know is that I want to be able to put them together as I go like my dailies because I dread doing them all at the end. In fact that's one of the things I've been working on this week. I've quilted a large rectangle of green linen and I'm
checking out spacing of the weeklies so I can trim the rectangle down and bind it before attaching each one.

I also finished five little pieces that I did mainly to use the five 4" x 5" canvases that I've had for a very long time. I used a strip of natural colored silk noil that had been printed with a large rubber band and black paint.  It was cut into five pieces, each one backed with flannel and stitched. Then I used watered down mat medium and attached them to the canvas. After drying the fabric and stitching is very stiff, but I rather like it.

The Weekly Leaf
This weeks leaf is more of the leaves that my friend Jeanette had given me and I had printed onto fabric.

This time I used the colorful ones, cut them out and fused them to green fabric.

Then stitched .

  4. I admire your commitment to do something daily, sometimes I think it is more time consuming than easy. If I did something daily it would have to be quick and simple. Like one hexagon. I can't wait to see them all put together. Merry Christmas

    1. Thanks Amy, I do try to keep it pretty easy and simple. I have everything prepared and ready to go so I usually spend less than 20 min. doing both of them.

  6. Your weekly leaves come together so compellingly on the green background, it is as if that were your intent all along. What a treasure!

  7. Such a good idea to prepare the background for the weekly pieces. Love the silk noil pieces too.
