Wet cyanotype, reupholstery and more french knots

I played with a few more pieces of wet cyanotype this week using some old pretreated fabric and I'm quite happy with the results.

Because the treated fabric was past its prime it didn't get the usual intense blue, but more of a blue gray. I will probably use  these in another set of small leaf study pieces.

All the ones that were finished last week were hung today in various venues around town.

I finished the quilting on my abstracted overgrowth.

Last Spring I dyed some heavy weight hemp fabric to use on my big old chair. It was finally done last Saturday and is so comfy. Here's a combined before and after picture.

  1. Your abstracted overgrowth is great! I love the blend of the pieces with slightly more realistic looking branches with the far more geometric shapes as you go across the quilt. And really fabulous color sense too.

Also- I like that your cyanotypes are more of the teal than the dark blue/indigo I usually think of. Was that due to the underlying fabric or did you do some cool treatment? Anyway, they're cool!

  4. I love your reupholstered chair. Oh my that is a whole lot of French Knots. I don't mind them, but I am not sure that I would want to make that many. Whew. That piece is very pretty though.

  5. I've been wanting to do the wet cyanotype for a while, finally got all the stuff last week. Now it's raining and cloudy for the next few days. How old was your treated fabric? I really like how they turned out!
