Lots of Stitching

I've started my panel that I'm stitching for the "25 Million Stitches"project.

This is one of three oversized hands that I'll be stitching, each will be a different shade of tan or brown. I also plan on stitching the entire background, that's a lot of stitches but no where near 25 million.

2019 Daily Stitching #4, days 50-56

This past week I've gotten to spend some much needed time with friends. On Saturday my friend Barbara and I went to Boise to an annual artist open studio event. I bought two of the daily explorations that  Lisa Flowers Ross had done earlier this year.

Each one is a collage of various items she had in her studio, mounted on a 5" square board panel.

Then yesterday a group of us made blocks for a quilt for an older friend that has moved to be with family. We used fabrics that were given to us from her stash. It was good to keep our hands and minds busy and just talk, next week we should be able to get it all assembled.

Tulips, kittens, yarn and some stitching

We have had a wet cool spring and the tulips are loving it. I have taken a bunch of tulip pictures, they make me happy. I'll share just a few of them.

The resident feral cat that we have not been able to catch and have neutered, just had four kittens. Last year we adopted the two that she had, this year we will be looking for homes. They are almost a week old. Mama had stepped away from them to eat so I snapped a quick picture.

Five years ago on my birthday my wonderful husband surprised me with a huge pile of yarn. I had just been knitting for about a year and the yarn shop where I learned was going out of business. He knew that I was able to get a pair of socks out of one skein of yarn, so he went around the store and picked up about fifteen different skeins. I'm on the last skein of sock yarn, but have several skeins of worsted weight yarn left. None are the same, but I've pulled out the variegated ones. I did this because a pattern for a cardigan sweater caught my eye and I have enough yarn in stock to make it. It will definitely be one of a kind. This is the yarn selection.

I do plan on finishing the pair of socks and the top down seamless pullover sweater I'm currently knitting before I start on this one, but I'm ready!

I was able to spend some time with my very creative friends Lisa Flowers Ross and Kathleen Probst last Friday and to my surprise they both wrote really nice blog posts about my weekly and daily projects. I, on the other hand took only one picture and it was of the tree that was in full white bloom outside Kathleen's studio window and it was snowing.

Speaking of giveaways, you have until Sunday to comment on my post to win a copy of the magazine, the thermo fax screen that was used and a set of four napkins printed with the screen.

Last Friday we had another play day here in Studio B, this time we made stamps. I totally forgot to take pictures but luckily Lisa remembered and took quite a few. I hadn't pulled out my stamping samples in a long time and had forgotten about some of the cool prints I had. You can see some of them on Lisa's blog.

The Weekly Leaf
This weeks leaf is from an unwanted tree that started to grow in my garden. I used my Gelli plate and Jaquard textile paint to print it. As you can see in the picture below my gelli plate has turned green, guess I haven't been very diligent cleaning it.

The print.

Open Studio and BAM

On Sunday I went into Boise with a friend to go to our friend Lisa Flowers Ross open studio and a visit to Boise Art Museum(BAM) . Lisa's work is always inspiring and displayed very professionally, I'm really loving some of her new work. Go to her blog and get an overview of her studio.

After our stop at Lisa's we did a quick lunch at Whole Foods and then on to BAM to check out some new exhibits. Lisa Kokin's "How the West Was Sewn"  was terrific, no photos are allowed so go to her website and check out what she does with old lace, linens and western novels. I had seen pictures of the western figures made out of the lace before seeing the exhibit and while these were wonderful, I was really taken with the leaves made from paperback books and lots of stitching.

Back in July I pieced together a top that I really liked and this week I finally quilted it.

I even pulled out a double needle for some of the quilting.
The color in this photo is a bit off, the full shot is correct.
