Daily Collage days 25-29
I've switched it up and am using 5 inch square pieces of recycled cardboard for the base and gel medium to apply papers.

I've gone 21 days without doing a daily stitching project and I missed having it to start my studio time. The daily collages are enjoyable but I missed the stitching. Doing the collages has made me very aware of how much stuff I have tucked away to use someday, so much that it gets overwhelming. While putting away the fabrics I'd been using for the collages I came across a pile of silk noil scraps that I've had for a very long time. They were very odd shaped but out of six of these scraps I was able to get 30 squares in three different sized, 6", 4" and 2". Another box had scraps of pole wrapped shibori fabric with fusible web on the back,  in odd shapes and sizes. The six and four inch squares each got a scrap fused to them and they will get added stitching, the 2 inch ones will just get stitching. Here is the basket ready to go.

Here are the first four days of the month.

At the end of the month all thirty pieces will be stitched together.

A splash of color and printing weeds

A pack of 10 inch squares in very bright colors became a very bright donation top this week, I do have the backing so it should get quilted soon.

After pulling some weeds I selected some to print (they have to be good for something).

Daily colleges #13-24

Starting tomorrow I'm going to switch it up some and do a different background and a little more complexity . Anyway that's the plan we will see if I can break out of my minimalist approach.

I've also had company in the studio, a 6 week old kitten that is learning to climb everything including my roll of flannel.

Still here and still stitching

I've been reminded a few times lately that I have been very remiss with my blogging, it's gone from a regular weekly post to a random occasional post. Starting today I'll try to get back to regular, but I'm not promising anything.

I put together six of my weekly leaves, weeks 13-18, and I love how it looks. I had just enough of the stripe fabric in my stash, I had to use it because it went so well with the prints.

SAQA 100 days is now finished, has a backing on it and is waiting for me to do facings.

This looks so much better than the original 3 yards of fabric. I'm now looking at other printing rejects in my stash to pull out for future cutting up and stitching.

I have saved odd scraps for decades with the thought of doing collage and have finally decided to just do it. My first stumbling block was the amount of stuff I've saved and where to start with it all. It's been narrowed down to a small selection of fabrics that already have fusible web on them and a few assorted other pieces that are in eyesight. I've started with a 5" x 7" size because I have a pad of canvas paper that I have no other use for. I expect these to change as I go along , switching out some of the material for papers, change size, etc. Here are the first 12.

I did number 13 yesterday and started to add a few stitches and may continue doing that for maybe the next 12. I've really been enjoying doing these, none of them are great art but who cares.

Staying Home

Not much new here on the home front, we've been staying home and keeping busy. Lots of yard work to do, so we have been getting outside. I've quilted the five donation quilts that I'd pieced a few weeks ago. This one is my favorite.

Sewing up scraps and odd fabrics

I've spent the last few days in the studio digging through my stuff and sewing odd things together, eventually they will end up as donation quilts for Project Linus. The first one was a large piece of fabric that I had printed many years ago and then didn't know what to do with it. Well, I've cut it up into large tumbling blocks, it's very bright.

The second one started from two pieces of fabric, both printed with a similar deconstructed leaf image. I then added strips of fabric that were close in color to the prints, it's very busy.

The third one is still in process. It started with a shoebox filled with scraps of black and white prints, many of them were ones that I had printed. I just started sewing pieces together and now have these five larger pieces that will get assembled together with some red fabric.

My normal goto thread for stitching is Pearl cotton, but for this 100 day project I'm using floss. Back in the 60's and 70's I did a lot of embroidery and saved all the thread in a large jar. For this project I've decided to use some of that thread, several of the skeins have the original little paper wrappers on them that include the price.

Most are 10 or 12 cents and there's 9 yards per skein. Thread skeins are no longer marked with a price and the price is quite a bit higher, and they are smaller, 8.7 yards.

Catching Up

I have a bit of catching up to do, it's been over two weeks since I've posted. Since we've been sheltering in place and all my normal weekday activities have ceased, I've been loosing track of what day it is. I missed doing my post on the 19th because I didn't realize it was Thursday and then once you skip one post it's easy to skip another. A blog friend emailed  today to check and make sure we were all right, I guess that was the subtle push I needed. (Thanks Norma)

I have finished my SAQA Benefit Auction donation, but probably won't be sending it in for a while.

I celebrated a birthday, very low keyed this year. But I gifted myself with an online printing class from Linda Germain. Every afternoon for two weeks I went out to Studio B and just played, it was a wonderful escape. The first photo is 90 of the prints I did.

This one is of the mess that I have on my table.
