Stitching a Tree

A short quick post this week, it's been a little stressful here but some stitching has been done.

2019 Weekly Leaf, week 50(already!)

2019 Daily Stitching #5

I'm stitching a tree. This time of year I get a tiny bit obsessive about bare naked trees, I take pictures, lots of pictures, but this year I decided to actually stitch one.
This is the sketch I drew.
So far I've outlined the trunk and main branches.
There's a whole lot more stitching to do and I'm not even sure how I'm going to do some of it, but I'll just keep plugging along.

I finished the socks!

Another Project Done

I would like to Thank all those who left messages of support for my husbands surgery. It's over, we are back home, there were a few problems but he got through it and is doing fairly well. He has about 4-6 weeks for recovery and I can see an improvement everyday. Next step is in 10 days we go back to Boise for another test and hopefully catheter removal, step by step to get healthy again. Cancer sure changes your life. This was the view from his 6th floor hospital window, the bear sculpture on the roof of the Children's Hospital.

25 Million Stitches

Finished! Now I just need to package it up and mail it in.

2019 Daily Stitching #5
I took a break this week, so there's no progress to show.

What I did do with all my time sitting and waiting was knit, I only have a couple more rows to go and this sock will be done.

Back to normal

I've settled back into my normal routine after the busyness of the past few weeks and it feels so good. We had a wonderful busy few days with family celebrating Thanksgiving and for the four youngest grandkids also Christmas since we won't see them then. Our only group picture (minus my hubby who was home smoking the brisket and turkey)is after the 5k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning we always stop for a bit of beverage before driving home and always find someone willing to be our photographer.

I finished the pair of socks I started this summer and wore them the next day, they were delightfully warm and cozy. This is my 12th pair since I started knitting in 2011.

I've put the border on the blue and white quilt top and I'm now waiting for fabric for the backing.

The last 5 are all cyanotypes on green fabric.

Hands update and warm socks

Thank you to everyone that commented on my hands last week. My problem with it is the big black hole in the center, it has already been stitched with size 5 pearl cotton in a horizontal running stitch. I'm not about to take it out.

The rest of the background is the same stitch only running vertical. Currently I'm entertaining some options; hands cut out of dyed organza, stenciling over the stitching or adding more stitching. I'm leaning toward the stenciling, using paintstiks so that the effect will be subtle. I am not a planner, I just dive in and start and figure things out as I go, this usually works for me but sometimes you just end up with a black hole. Right now the whole project is in timeout while I think and do other things.

I did finish another pair of warm wool socks, although it's been too hot to put them on for the picture.

The Weekly Leaf

This week I used the leftover crumpled and painted paper that had been used in week #8 and #10 leaves.

I was really drawn to this leaf that I had picked up in a friends yard.

It was cut out of the paper and fused to my fabric.

Then stitched.

2015 Daily Stitching done and new work started

Silk Fragments
11-1-2015 to 12-31-2015

Silk fragments is all sewn together, backing on,quilted, faced, sleeve on and labeled! I bet you can guess how I spent the New Year. Here are a few closeups.

I've also started a new daily stitching project for the new year. This time I'm using my new mini gelli plates that I requested for Christmas.
I was so excited I forgot to take a picture before I ripped them both open. I'll be printing on white fabric in a variety of colors. These are my first group of prints.
I have a pile of different white fabrics that I will be using, both silk and cotton. Here's the next group to be printed, they are cut and have flannel fused to the backs so they will be ready for stitching after they are printed.

And here are the first four, printed and stitched.

Sari Ribbon #291-#297

The new Weekly Leaf

This year I will be using autumn colored fabrics and instead of finishing each block like I have for the past two years, this year I'm fusing it to a square of felt. I have four colors of felt, I may add or make a few substitutions as I go. But the ones I have are cut and ready to go.

The leaf was stenciled onto gold hand dyed fabric with paint stiks.
Then stitched.
Week #1, year #3

I also finished knitting this winters pair of socks.
