Stitched circle

I just realized it's been a week since I've posted. I have been getting things done, but I guess I don't have anything to say about them. I know I tend to be an introvert, so I'll just keep trying to get what's in my head out onto the blog.

The stitched circle was finished this morning, I'm happy with it and have been thinking of doing a companion piece with white stitching on black. I think I will stretch it over stretcher bars to hang it. The circle is 20" in diameter and the whole piece is about 30" x 36".

A beaded edge

This is the finished beaded edge of a piece of organza. It's a part of a two piece art cloth. The organza was layered on top of a piece of cotton and they were both dye printed at the same time. A larger view of the piece is my header. I will sew the top edge of the two pieces together, they are approximately two yards long. Then they will hang over a plexiglass tube so that the organza floats about an inch in front of the cotton. It's one of my final pieces for my art cloth mastery class.

Compulsive Beading

This is a small beaded piece I just finished. I started with a piece of painted and distressed lutrador, fused it to black felt, then compulsively beaded it, mounted it on a painted 9 x 12 canvas and added a few more beads. Now when I look at it I see more places that I'd like beads. I rarely do beaded projects, but when I do I have trouble stopping, I keep wanting to add more beads.

New pillows

I bought pillow forms last October to make pillows for my sofa. Today I finally did it! They are made of antique silk drapery samples that I've had for way to many years. The colors pick up those in the rug and the walls. There are circles, I can't seem to get away from them, but there's no hand stitching.

I've also finished doing a small beaded piece that will be mounted on canvas. I painted the canvas and am waiting for it to dry, so pictures of that next time.

Circles and website update

These are some of the circles I've been working on. They are all done in different techniques and each one will be mounted on a 10" x 10" frame. They will all hang together as one multiple piece artwork. Stretching them onto the frames is going to be the tricky part. I've used a variety of cottons and silks in different weights and textures.

My website has been updated, so please check it out and let me know what you think.

More hand stitching

I just can't stop the hand stitching. This will be a 20" circle when it's completed, white with black stitching(there will be a tiny touch of red).

Hand dyed cheesecloth

It's inventory time and this year it has been much easier and faster than in the past. Since I'm no longer vending at quilt shows I've worked at reducing what I have on hand. But my studio is not exactly a hot bed of sales so I thought I'd let everyone know what's still available. I currently have about 35 fat quarter pieces of hand dyed cheesecloth , each is $4 and that includes postage(US). If you are interested email me. There are several different browns, lots of light blues(great for cloudy skies), a few greens, a red, a purple and some dark blue. Cheesecloth adds great texture to landscapes and is fun to use with needle punch felting.

I've been doing a lot of hand stitching lately, not something I've been known to do much of. For the past twenty or so years I've done everything buy machine, as fast as I could. Lately though I've been doing a lot of large running stitches with #5 pearl cotton(that's the heavy stuff that requires a big needle) and sewing on lots of buttons. I'm enjoying it also, so maybe I'm slowing down and taking life at a more leisurely pace. Both of the projects above are part of my final assignment pieces for the Art cloth mastery class I'm taking.
